Behind every truck driver putting in long hours on the road is a support system helping hold everything together back home. For Amber Johnson, being the wife of professional truck driver Michael Johnson means making sacrifices, but she says Wilson Logistics has played a huge role in making the experience more positive for both the drivers and their families. 

While Michael drives for Wilson Logistics across the country, Amber has experienced firsthand how the company’s supportive culture and appreciation for its drivers stand out. One of the things that makes Wilson different is the personal connection they create with their drivers. Rather than treating drivers like numbers, she says the staff takes time to truly get to know the people who work there.

“They remember every driver’s name,” Amber said. “My job doesn’t do that.”

This deep level of support helps Amber manage life at home and keep everything balanced. Though the lifestyle can be challenging, she says it has also given her a deep appreciation for the trucking industry and the people behind it. 

“The hardest part is missing my husband every day,” Amber shared. She explained that trucking families often experience long periods apart, with drivers sometimes gone anywhere from one to three months at a time. Over the years, she has learned how important independence and patience are in making the relationship work. 

One of the biggest adjustments came early on, when she had to adapt to limited communication while Michael was on the road. “When he first started, it was hard that he couldn’t answer every call,” she said. “I had to learn patience.”

Even from a distance, Amber continues to support Michael however she can. She takes care of household responsibilities and manages things at home so Michael can stay focused on the road. Over time, she says being part of the trucking industry has shown her just how essential drivers are to everyday life. From delivering food and supplies to transporting materials across the country, she believes truck drivers are responsible for keeping the world going.

For Amber, being a truck driver’s wife comes with sacrifices, but it has also strengthened her perspective on commitment and partnership. 

While drivers spend countless hours on the road, their partners are making sacrifices right alongside them – supporting them every mile of the journey.
